The brief

Today you are going to imagine that you are a member of the Management Committee for the Huntingbridge Community Centre. You have to make decisions about how the centre is used and how the money is spent. Today you are at a special meeting to consider the rising level of graffiti at the centre, and the financial problems this is causing.

You will hear from a number of groups which use the centre, and from the local police and a representative of young people in the area. As a committee you will need to decide the best way to tackle the graffiti problem. In making these decisions, you will be able to seek advice from the experts online.

Who’s who in the story:

  • Alison Raymond - chairperson of management committee
  • Tom Stiles - centre manager
  • Other members of the management committee (ie the pupils)
  • Phil Collar - Police Community Safety Officer
  • Belinda Goode – leader of the Parents and Toddlers Group
  • Theresa Dance – organiser of the Senior Citizen’s Lunch Club
  • Martin Ployer – tutor at the Learn2Work Forum
  • Lee Crawford – Year 10 pupil at Huntingbridge High School and founder of the Huntingbridge Youth Council
  • Jane Glover - Year 10 Guidance teacher from Huntingbridge High School
